Chime in and Save the Bells
Another year is swiftly coming to an end as we celebrate all the good work being done at the Catalina Chimes Tower. We’d like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for your support and helping to make the chimes shine as they once did! Because of your generosity, we have been able to move even closer to our restoration goals.
Once again, your contributions have made a profound difference to our progress. This year our attention was focused on restoring the chimes and their mechanism. This phase addressed all the elements of the instrument itself-- from a full restoration of the strikers, tubular bells and dampers to the installation of a new relay board and refurbishment of the supporting structure.
In addition to the above, there is a new informational plaque at the front of the Chimes Tower offering deeper insights into the tower's history and significance. The QR Code on the sign allows for easy donations. Consider scanning it to make a contribution when you pass by. Supporters may also now use Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Venmo or opt for periodic recurring donations. These new donation options are designed to provide flexibility and ease, ensuring that supporting the preservation of the Catalina Chimes Tower is more accessible than ever.
Supporters also have the opportunity to 'Adopt a Chime' or ‘Save a Striker’ online and be recognized as “Guardian of a Chime” or “Savior of a Striker!” Your duties as guardian include contributing to fully restore and protect one of 20 tubular bells or behind-the-scenes strikers for a ten-year term. While the precious chimes carry the melodic tones, they would be nowhere without active and powerful strikers!
With the end of 2024 in sight, we’re turning our focus to another monumental milestone—the Chimes Tower’s centennial anniversary in 2025! We’re looking forward to new support, appreciation, and excitement around this celebration as we complete our restoration. Plans are set to surround the building with colorful landscaping, lighting, and a viewing terrace so all can enjoy visiting the tower while taking in Avalon’s panoramic views.
